Cosmetics and beauty

A medical effect your serum does not have.

An answer can attribute to your cream an effect no label claims, or an ingredient you removed from the formula. TrustInsider finds the claim, the source that generated it and prepares the correction.

What happens

From cosmetic product to remedy, in one sentence

Enthusiastic reviews and trend articles use strong words such as “soothes”, “repairs”, “heals”. The assistant puts them together and returns an almost medical effect that the product does not have and that the brand never wrote.

Claims about cosmetic products have their own European rules, set out in the cosmetics regulation. The brand does not write that sentence, but finds it in the answer a customer reads before buying: to the reader, it is a promise from the house. That is why it pays to find it early and trace it back to the source it comes from.

An answer in which a medical effect comes from a trend article

A sample answer to a question about a cream for sensitive skin, with three parts marked: the effect attributed to the product, the trend blog that suggests it and the claim the brand never made.

QuestionWhich cream for irritated skin really works?

AI assistant · sample answer

Among the most recommended is the demo brand’s soothing cream, which makes redness disappear in a few days. According to a widely read beauty blog, it is also suitable for people with dermatitis and can be used every day.

  1. Statement

An effect described in stronger words than those on the label.

  2. Source

The cited source is a trend article, not the brand’s product page.

  3. Error

A medical-type effect the brand has never claimed.

The cream described as a remedy for irritated skin

What to avoid: the answer presents the cream as able to cure a skin condition, an effect no label from the brand claims. What to do: brand content with only the claims provided for on the label, clear that the product has no medical effects.

The changed formula

The removed ingredient the answers remember

You reformulated the product and updated the label, but the old ingredient list still lives on third-party sites. People looking for a product without that substance rule you out; people looking for it choose you by mistake.

The check is made against the label on the market: AI claims flags the cited ingredient and the source of the answer. A dated list on the website, and the same list in the feed that reaches retailers and shopping agents, gives the assistant a new version to pick up.

The retailer’s page stuck on the old formula

What to avoid: a removed ingredient keeps appearing in answers, picked up from a retailer’s page that was never updated. What to do: an up-to-date, dated ingredient list on the website, identical to the one in the feed.

Press and magazines

When the magazine counts more than your product page

In beauty, answers can rely on magazines and trade publications more than on brands’ websites. Measuring that press tells you where the description customers read comes from.

Press review gathers the articles about your products, Cited sources shows which of them the assistant actually picks up. Together they indicate where a test, a press release or an updated figure is most likely to reach the answer.

Four types of beauty source by coverage and pick-up

Beauty magazine, trade publication, personal blog and brand website placed according to how often they appear in the press review and how much the assistant picks them up in answers, without numbers.

How much the answer picks it up

How often it appears in the press review

  1. Beauty magazine

Frequent articles, often picked up almost word for word.

  2. Trade publication

Technical pieces on ingredients, picked up in the most specific questions.

  3. Personal blog

Few posts, but with strong words that the answers amplify.

  4. Brand website

Official source that enters the answer less than it should.

Nobody knows which articles get picked up

What to avoid: the trade press decides how the product is described, but nobody in the company knows which articles make it into the answers. What to do: the press review read together with the cited sources, with the list of publications that appear.

From error to task

Corrections in order of priority, with their reason

Every wrong claim found becomes an action. The Overview lines them up by impact relative to effort and states, next to each one, what gave rise to it.

The glimpse shows the priority actions in the Overview for a demo brand: each row carries the label of the question it answers, the reason observed in the answers and the priority; the effect is measured in the next cycle, not promised. For a cosmetics line the first rows are usually a claim to bring back to what the label says and an ingredient list to update. Every text goes through your regulatory review, which keeps the final word.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about cosmetics in AI answers

Who is responsible for a wrong sentence, what to write to correct it, why a removed ingredient lingers and how to follow several lines.

Does a wrong answer about a cosmetic concern the brand?

You did not write the sentence, but the customer reads it as a description of your product. It pays to find it early and correct the sources it comes from.

What can I write to correct an effect attributed by mistake?

The claims the product already carries on its label, verifiable and without medical effects. The proposed text starts from there and goes through your internal review.

Why does a removed ingredient linger in the answers?

Because retailers’ pages and old articles do not update themselves. A dated list on the website and in the feed helps the assistant find the new version.

Can I follow several product lines?

Yes: the panel is organised by line and by question, and every claim stays linked to the product it describes.
