Social · Beyond the counter

Engagement is up. What about the brand?

Read reach, interactions and customer questions as distinct signals. Evaluate social content without confusing virality and trust.

Comments rise, but some people are asking where to find the price or how to book. In this possible scenario, attention grows alongside an unanswered question. The diagnosis changes: the post attracted interest, while the route to decision-making information needs work. A demonstration video, an awareness post and a service notice should therefore not be judged through one identical counter.

Use the channel’s definitions

Instagram Insights distinguishes account and media data for professional accounts. Meta’s documentation ties access to requirements and permissions; available metrics also depend on the queried object. Read the field definition before comparing: a view is not necessarily a person, and an interaction is not a sale. Reports need the metric name, interval and origin, with paid support identified separately. Data from a connected account does not represent every public Instagram post. [instagram-insights]

Read the context behind interactions

More comments may indicate interest, unanswered questions, irony or a problem. Read a declared set of content and separate specific requests from generic reactions. A share is not automatically positive and a critical question is not automatically negative. When classifying comments, retain criteria and review ambiguous cases. Exclude unnecessary personal data from the report. The team should understand what information is missing and what response might help, without turning a collection of comments into a final judgment about people or the audience.

Connect the post to the page it promises

Illustrative example: a video shows how easy booking is, but its link opens a page without availability, prices or instructions. The post can attract attention while leaving customers without a next step. Test the mobile journey: message, link, page and action. Fix the break in understanding before asking for another click. This is not real campaign data. It distinguishes a social-content issue from an issue with the destination that content sends people to.

Compare declared conditions

Keep format, goal, period and advertising support recognizable. A promoted post and an organic post are not equivalent without context. Different audiences and observation durations matter too. To test a new message, decide beforehand what changes and which signals to read. Do not choose only the most favorable metric after publication. Keep uncertain results: they may indicate missing measurement or an inconclusive sample. One increase does not demonstrate a lasting rise in trust or sales.
