A page worth revisiting

  1. Example question

Which pages does AI use to describe my headphones?

  2. What you read

The detail view connects the domain to the cited page and the answer referencing it. The document date helps you check whether the information reflects the current offering.

  3. The next step

Prepare a proposal to update the product page, then repeat the check using the same questions.

An answer may cite several domains. Citation share does not measure traffic, authority or brand preference.

What you get

One answer. Clear conditions.

Every observation retains the engine, model version, questions, market, language and collection time, making comparisons between brands and periods verifiable. Conditions matter. A change in results may reflect new questions or a model update even without any change in reputation.

Connect the statement about your brand to the expressed need and the indicated URL. A publication may be cited while the brand appears in the text, or a brand page may be a source without a recommendation. The domain does not identify the content’s role: documentation, articles, reviews and commercial pages require different readings.

Which evidence supports each signal
SignalEvidence neededDistinction to preserve
MentionA name or alias correctly attributed to your brand in the observed text.A name in an answer does not demonstrate appreciation.
CitationThe source reference and its relationship to the statement it should support.Citing a page and recommending your brand are different signals.
RecommendationAn explicit proposal of your brand for the need expressed in the question. The recommendation depends on the observed context; it does not measure actual user choices.

What you get

A mention indicates presence

A mention indicates that your brand appears in an answer after verifying that the name refers to the correct entity. Context changes its meaning. A neutral list, unfavourable comparison and purchase suggestion are different forms of presence: mention counts should not confuse them with recommendations.

Reading path
  1. Name in the answer
  2. Verified entity
  3. Attributed mention

What you get

A citation identifies a linked source

A URL shown among an answer’s sources is a citation, not a search position or an endorsement. Examine the page and the passage the reference points to. The same source can accompany neutral or critical answers: distinguish your brand’s pages from independent sources.

Information context
  1. Observed statement
  2. Linked URL
  3. Source content

What you get

A recommendation expresses a choice

An answer recommends your brand when it proposes it as a suitable choice for a need, under stated classification criteria. Read the conditions and alternatives attached to the suggestion. Count recommendations separately from mentions and citations, state the base of valid answers and do not generalise the sample to all AI users.

Distinct perspectives
  1. Suggested choice
  2. Stated conditions
  3. Alternatives considered

Check the reference

Follow the link. Read the context.

A reference in an answer may be incomplete, unreachable or unrelated to the claim. Checking it prevents a link’s presence from being mistaken for proof of its content.

Where access and licensing permit, compare the claim with the original passage, date and any updates. If the text is inaccessible, record that limitation rather than reconstruct it. A citation does not automatically authorise storing the full article or republishing it in a report.

Priorities for your team

Clarify the sources you can improve.

Editorial work starts with documented gaps. An unclear specification on your website needs a different action from an external article to check or a review reporting a service problem.

Assign each proposal to someone who can assess it and establish a follow-up check. Updating the source, indexing it and a possible citation in a new AI answer are separate steps. External corrections follow the source owner’s channels; the assistant prepares the work without assuming the right to modify others’ content.
